Award-winning group Seafood Pub Company has announced the purchase of its first site in Yorkshire.

The Red Lion pub in Harrogate will undergo a £1.5m development programme and will reopen under a new name this summer.

Seafood Pub Company managing director Joycelyn Neve explained why the Lancashire-based group made the decision to cross the border into neighbouring Yorkshire.

A striking and well-located site

She said: “We have been looking at entering Yorkshire for some time and, as a striking and well-located site, it was exactly the sort of property we were looking for.

“We are incredibly pleased to be able to take our award-winning food to Yorkshire and we are looking forward to becoming part of the local community to make sure we are delivering menus and service fitting of the area and its people.”

The venue will be acquired on a freehold basis and will relaunch as a pub, restaurant and function space with 260 covers and modern guest bedrooms.

It will maintain its original exterior while taking on the Seafood Pub Company signature interior design features.

More acquisitions to take place

The pub group, which is backed by Penta Capital, currently has 10 sites across Lancashire.

The new Yorkshire site is part of a continued growth strategy which expects to deliver more acquisitions over the next year.

Since it started in 2010, Seafood has grown fast and now employs more than 280 staff, with a turnover that exceeds £11m.

The group took home Best Food Offer at the 2015 and 2016 Publican Awards and is a finalists at this year’s glittering event in the Best Premium Food Offer category.
