Molson Coors has announced a wholesale price rise of 7p per pint on all package and draught products, which will take effect in March.

This equates to a 4.8% increase, inclusive of duty, but a 50 litre keg of Magners — which it distributes on draught for C&C Group — will be frozen at its 2009 price.

A statement from the firm read: "Molson Coors (UK) reviews wholesale prices once a year and these changes reflect the current costs associated with producing, distributing and supporting our brands.

The brewer added, "as a global family brewer we believe in building the right level of respect for alcohol, in which price, marketing and education have key roles to play for the long term health of the category and ultimately the success of both our business and our customers".

Molson Coors plans an extra £8.1m of brand support in 2010.

The move follows news that Heineken beers will go up by 4p a pint, its ciders by 5p, while InBev will increase prices by 4p, and Diageo by 5.1%.
