As official sponsor of UEFA Euro 2012, Carlsberg is throwing all its marketing support at the biggest football competition of the year.

Schmeichel, pictured above, has played much of his football in the company’s two biggest markets — Denmark and the UK.

He said: “Having sponsored the European Football Championships for more than 20 years, Carlsberg has a fantastic track record and shown a big commitment to fans, supporters and lovers of football, and I am really looking forward to playing my part."

The appointment of Schmeichel follows hot on the heels of Gareth Southgate’s new role fronting the Carlsberg Pub Cup, billed as the UK’s largest pub five-a-side tournament.
