BrewDog, the fast-growing Scottish brewer and bar operator, saw profits almost double last year on the back of rising sales aided by its pub opening programme.

Pre-tax profits increased 92% to £425,000 on turn-over up 77% to £5.92m, according to headline figures for the 12 months to 31 December 2011 seen by M&C Report. Net assets at the year end were £5.6m.

Last year saw the expansion of BrewDog’s craft beer bar business, with three sites opening in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Camden in London, leaving the company with four at the year end.

Brewdog plans to open 10 bars in 2012 and has so far opened three, in Nottingham, Newcastle and Manchester. The company is also looking at the possibility of expansion overseas, with Dublin and Tokyo mooted as possible locations.

It follows the completion in December of BrewDog’s Equity for Punks programme, which raised £2.14m for expansion of its pub and brewery operations. The company hopes to increase brewing capacity 10-fold when its new brewery in Balmacassie, just outside Aberdeen, opens at a later date.
