Jones: optimistic for the future

Food & Fuel, the 10-strong London gastropub operator led by Karen Jones, has reported a doubling of turnover in the year after it bought the five leasehold pubs owned by Front Page.

Turnover jumped from £3.9m in the 51 weeks to 2 June 2007 to £7.6m in the 52 weeks ended 1 June 2008.

The group made an operating profit of £62,785 in its most recent year compared to a loss of £404,934 the year before. However, the loss on ordinary activities before tax, after interest and dividends, was £351,017 compared to £722,438 the year before.

A statement said: "During the 52 weeks ending 1 June 2008, the enlarged group has traded successfully.

"The directors are satisfied with the progress the company has made, and look forward to the future with some optimism."
