Marston's appoints new non-exec

Marston’s, the pub operator and brewer, has announced the appointment of Nick Backhouse, formerly chief financial officer at Laurel Pub Company, as a non-executive director.

Backhouse, who will join the pub group on 1 February, is currently the senior independent director of the Guardian Media Group PLC and a non-executive director of All3Media.

He was previously deputy chief executive officer of David Lloyd Leisure Group (2008 - 2011), chief financial officer of National Car Parks (2006 - 2007), chief financial officer of Laurel Pub Company (2002 - 2005), and chief financial officer of Freeserve (1999 - 2001).

Prior to this he was a managing director at ING Barings, which he joined after qualifying as a chartered accountant with Coopers & Lybrand.

David Thompson, chairman of Marston's, said: “I am delighted to welcome Nick to Marston's. His background in finance and then general management, together with his knowledge of the leisure sector will enable him to make a valuable contribution to the group.”
