A further 30 jobs are to go at Spirit Group's head office as the company continues its ongoing restructuring and consultation programme following Punch Taverns' acquisition earlier this year.

Spirit boss Andrew Knight said the jobs affected were in areas such as food buying teams and other related departments.

"As we've sold pubs to Orchid Group and Regent Inns and converted a number of our pubs to leased operations, so the need for the level of overheads we've had in the past is reduced," he said.

The job losses were the second part of a three-phase consultation process which had been going on for the past six months, he added.

Spirit is looking to reduce its head office personnel from between 350 and 400 individuals to around 250 by the time the restructuring programme is completed.
