A Scottish pub owner and restaurateur has formed a new business to save two of Scotland's best known small breweries.

Norman Sinclair and his wife Christine have formed Sinclair Breweries, which has bought the Atlas Brewery in Kinlochleven and the Orkney Brewery. Both were part of Highlands and Islands Breweries. which went into administration in May.

Mr Sinclair owns the Cawdor Tavern and The Classroom restaurant in Nairn. He said: "We firmly believe we can maintain and develop the breweries' deserved reputation for producing beers of exceptional quality and create a more secure future for all the staff at both locations.

"We'll be looking to achieve that through investment in both breweries, enabling us to increase output, develop new beers and improve marketing."

The new company will safeguard the jobs of 10 staff at the breweries.
