Herefordshire brewer Wye Valley Brewery bagged a brace of awards at the SIBA Brewing Business Awards last night, winning the overall award and walking away with the Best Launch award, sponsored by The Publican, at the same event.

Presenting the overall winner award to Wye Valley chairman Peter Armor, beer writer Pete Brown said it was in recognition of the brewer's "wide ranging and extremely overall commitment to the proactive marketing that must be utilised to compliment the brewing of exceptional beer".

Amor, who coincidentally happens to be SIBA's chairman, collected the award with John Gardiner, the brewery's sales manager.

Amor Sr said it was "incredibly pleasing and satisfying to know that 25 years of dedication from a wonderful team of people has resulted in recognition".

Other winners included Warwickshire's Purity Brewing Company for best use of electronic media; Thornbridge Brewery, based in Derbyshire, for best support for an on-trade customer and Suffolk micro brewer Mill Green Brewery, which won both the Best Innovation category and Best Environmental Initiative.

Speaking at the event, held in the Institute of Directors in London, Pete Brown said it was a testament to the work that SIBA members were doing that the large 'super regional' brewers such as Greene King were now producing more cask ales to compete with the products SIBA brewers were adept at bringing to the market.
