Ale guide highlights town’s pub success
The Historic Otley Ale Trail guide has been published by Otley Pub Club and lists 20 pubs, as opposed to the 18 that were listed in the guide three years ago.
Also, along with the two additional pubs which have opened since 2013, at least six pubs in the town have undergone refurbishment.
The official launch of the updated guide was held last week at the Black Horse Hotel in the Leeds village.
Delighted
Otley Pub Club president and local MP Greg Mulholland said he was delighted that the club had released a second version of the guide.
He added: “[The guide] remains unique in the UK as the only local pub guide that shows all the ‘lost’ pubs as well as the 20 pubs that happily still serve the town.
“It is fantastic that not only has Otley hung onto many historic pubs but it has two new ones and has seen significant investment in several pubs, which is great for the local economy.
“Otley’s pub history is fascinating and the aim is to get this very attractive pub guide further afield to attract more people to come and visit Otley and its pubs and find out why Otley is a famous Yorkshire pub town.”
Valuable addition
Otley Pub Club chairman Andy FitzGerald explained: “It is great news that we have been able to launch a new Ale Trail guide, which includes more pubs than three years ago.”
He also thanked the town’s council, hosts of the launch and transport company First Bus, along the guide’s sponsors. He said he believed the guide was a valuable addition to the town’s marketing efforts.
