Scottish brewer and pub operator BrewDog is set to launch a new brew-your-own concept within its upcoming Dalston bar, opening in April.

Hopworks will be housed in a large art deco former factory on Stoke Newington Road, north-east London, along with a large BrewDog bar and BottleDog store – described as "a new spearhead for the East London landscape".

Sarah Warman, head of marketing at BrewDog, said the concept was a "natural extension of the brand's hop havens" and will offer customers the chance to try their hand at brewing, "without flying blind in your own home".

"Brewing beer is a surprisingly simple process but it's easy to get it wrong. We want to make it more accessible to novices by offering them the guidance of a qualified beer expert to show them the ropes," Warman said.

BottleDog shops stock a range of home-brewing ingredients but this will be the first time the Scottish beer brand has offered its customers tuition in the process.

Eight pilot brew kits, comprising a mash tun, kettle and fermentation vessel, will be available to book for those wanting to try the experience, while customers can expect to have free reign to brew whatever beer they like from a wide selection of hops.

Currently, there are no further Hopworks planned but BrewDog "would like to open [Hopworks] in Aberdeen and somewhere in the north of England" in due course.
