Scottish brewer BrewDog has announced the launch of a new sour ale inspired by iconic Scottish drink Irn Bru.

The beer, called Sour Bru, was brewed in collaboration with Leeds-based brewer North Brewing Co and will be launched at North Brew Co’s tap room this Friday (5 August).

Delighted

John Gyngell, director of North Brew Co, said: “We were delighted when we were approached by Russ from BrewDog.

“In the eight months of being a brewery so far, we didn’t think we’d get an opportunity to head back to Scotland to brew so soon, especially with BrewDog, it’s massive. We were so impressed by their set-up and the welcome they gave us.”

‘Real ale’

BrewDog made headlines this month with the launch of its first ‘real ale’ since becoming a major force in UK brewing, a “live” key keg-conditioned version of its popular Dead Pony Club ale.

The beer, thanks to its manufacturing process, is compatible with CAMRA’s guidelines on what can be classified as a real ale.

Writing on the company’s blog, BrewDog co-founder James Watt said the brewery wanted to deliver “all that is good about perfect cask ale with none of the negative: no oxidation, no two-day shelf life (which is usually ignored), no inconsistent quality, no uninformed publicans messing up good beer”.

BrewDog announced this morning (4 August) the launch of its Equity For Punks investment drive scheme across the USA.
