Brewdog to build new brewery in Australia
The brewery, which was founded in 2007, already has brewing sites in Aberdeen, Scotland, and Ohio, USA.
Announcing the news on its website, BrewDog said it was “committed to shortening the distance between ourselves and the people who enjoy our beer”.
“Just as our US Equity Punk community are now enjoying home-brewed BrewDog beer, our Australian shareholders and customers will be able to do the same,” it said.
'A kick-ass location'
The brewery has earmarked Newcastle in New South Wales, and Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, as two potential locations for the brewery site.
“We’re after a kick-ass location for our brewhouse, and are narrowing our eyes on two areas on the east coast growing at lightning speed – Newcastle and Brisbane,” BrewDog continued. “We love the vibe of these cities and think either would be perfect for a BrewDog brewery/brewpub.”
BrewDog looking for an existing industrial site to redevelop of between 2,000-4,000m² in size, or a plot of land that could accommodate a build of that size with room for expansion.
An old face
Zarah Prior, an Australian native who previously worked for the brewer in marketing and business development between 2011 and 2016, has been appointed to oversee the location search.
Commenting on their plans for Australia, Prior said: “Our Australian Equity Punk community has been crying out for BrewDog to set up shop closer to home, so we are excited to finally be making that happen. We’ve thrived on the loyalty that our shareholders and peers have shown over the past 10 years, and we can’t wait to deliver brewery-fresh beers to our Equity Punks and BrewDog fans in Australia!”
Earlier this month, Sussex brewery Burning Sky announced it would be pulling its beers from BrewDog’s 29 UK and 17 international bars, citing its attitude and desire to become one of the biggest breweries in the world as the reason behind the move.
