The former pub of Fair Pint founder Mark Dodds has been let by Antic Ltd, the London-based multiple pub operator.

The Sun of Camberwell – previously the Sun and Doves – re-opened on 30 November following a refurbishment, and will be focused on a strong food offer.

Star Pubs & Bars (formerly S&NPC) still own the freehold of the pub, with Antic, now the tenant, installing a manager at the premises.

Dodds was evicted from the pub on 23 September 2011 following a long-running rent dispute with S&NPC. At a forfeiture hearing Dodds was given three years to pay back £135,000 in backdated rent and legal expenses. However Dodds fell behind on the repayment plan.

The details of the lease have not been disclosed.

“It is still a tied pub, we have just taken it over,” said Antic’s marketing manager Fiona Collett.

“The plan is to develop it into a successful food-led pub but it is early days as the kitchen has only been open a week.

“The pub is right by our head office and we go past it all the time so it was such an obvious one to take on – it is such a lovely pub and such a great place.

“We want to provide somewhere for the nurses at the nearby hospital to go for a drink and nice bite to eat.”
