Brampton Brewery's Mild has been named the best beer in the Midlands at the SIBA Independent Beer Awards, hosted by the Birmingham CAMRA Beer festival.

Brampton Mild is described on the brewery's website as "richer than a lottery winner" and "not so much a meal in a glass as a 5-course banquet" with coffee, toffee and caramel notes.

The brewery also said that the characteristics of the brew change the longer it is allowed to condition for.

Chris Radford from Brampton Brewery accepted the SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) award, saying it was "brewed with love and passion".

He said: “The fact this award is voted for by our peers, by brewers, makes it very special. We brew beer we love and don't expect to walk away with prizes, but this one means a lot.”

Small-pack

The small pack competition, in which the region's best bottled and canned beers are judged, also took place, with Bayern from Thornbridge brewery taking the overall gold medal.

Alex Buchanan, marketing manager at Thornbridge Brewery, said: “I've always said every win is important as it highlights the quality of the beer, but the SIBA award is different because it’s brewers that are doing the rating.

"Bayern is a classic Germanic-style beer and this win also highlights that British brewers are as good as any in the world, and not just at traditional British styles.”
