Beer and cider experts will come together next month to determine what customers are likely to drink in pubs in the future, at the first Future Trends: Beer and Cider event in London.

The event, which is organised by the Publican's Morning Advertiser ​in association with headline sponsor Heineken, will give operators key insights into what beer and cider trends will affect their businesses in the year ahead.

Read on for nine things you'll learn at the Future Trends: Beer and Cider event to be held at the LSO St Luke's, Old Street, on 22 June.

1. What operators want from innovation

Innovation in beer and cider will be at the centre of CGA Strategy Graeme Loudon's presentation.

Loudon, who will also reveal exclusive research highlighting what operators want from new beer and cider products, will cast his keen eye over the sector and explain how new product development (NPD) can affect sales.

2. A view outside of the UK

Beer and cider trends outside the UK can often be used to determine what the on-trade here might expect in the future.

Euromonitor's Spiros Malandrakis will outline some key beer and cider trends from overseas and predict how they might impact UK pubs.

3. How to handle changing drinking habits

Heineken category and trade marketing director Andy Turner will reveal how exclusive research has been used by the beer and cider giant to effectively respond to changing customer drinking habits with innovation.

4. Beer tax and legislation

British Beer and Pub Association's Brigid Simmonds will outline how taxation is affecting beer NPD and how the organisation is working to overcome the issues.

National Association of Cider Makers' new communications officer Gabe Cook will make his first public appearance in his new role to outline the challenges that lie ahead for the UK's cider sector and what can be done to build a more prosperous industry.

6. There's a cider and beer for that

A panel of food and drink experts will be quizzed by the event's chair on the merits of pushing beer and ciders with food and how much more the trade has to do to perfect the technique.

7. Making more of craft cider

Top beer blogger and regular Publican's Morning Advertiser ​columnist Pete Brown will use his insight and vast experience of the beer and cider categories to determine whether the term 'craft' can be used as successfully with cider as it has for beer.

9. News from across The Pond

Headline speaker Bob Pease, president and CEO of the Brewers Association, will delve deep into the rise of the craft trend in the US and forecast what the UK market could expect.
