The west London pub, which had already won a slew of awards for its food offer and the Wine List of the Year award at 2016’s Top 50 Gastropubs, had what can only be described as a beast of a list, featuring over 200 bottles and upwards of 85 wines available by the glass. This made the Truscott one of the only pubs in the country, let alone London, where customers could order an extravagant 1960s vintage as easily as a glass of garden-variety Sauvignon Blanc.

Tastings

Over the course of its short but sweet existence, the Fishwicks approached developing their wine offer with staunch determination, hosting a multitude of bespoke tasting events with high-profile sommeliers and doing their bit to shine a light on less well-known styles of wine.

Staff were commonly encouraged to take WSET exams. The Fishwicks’ focus on wine even went so far as to run WSET classes for members of the public in the upstairs dining room, generating daytime trade and building the pub’s profile as a hub for all things wine in the community. Andrew Fishwick went on to host the Wine Stage at the Taste of London festival in 2016.

The Truscott Arms’ wine list itself was sourced individually by the Fishwicks and their team at the pub, working with specialist suppliers as well as visiting independent producers for small orders of boutique wines and more unusual grapes.
