Star pubs refuse to sell beer

Any ideas on this. Basically we are disputing an invoice sent by star pubs and refused to pay it as they owe us several credits for non delivered beer and several other things all of which our bdm is aware of and has assured us in meetings he has sorted out. However we have been told by credit control that unless we pay the invoice in full we cannot have any more beer supplied (no outstanding beer accounts the invoice is for inside track etc). So bottom line we have a pub with rapidly running out beer and star pubs blackmailing us into paying a disputed invoice. Any ideas welcome as to what to do.

Have you considered a letter from your solicitor outlining your claim as a precursor to county court proceedings? Have you taken your complaint further up the management line, i.e. your BDM's manager or your credit controller's supervisor? Whilst it may seem onerous you may wish to consider getting your solicitor to draft a letter whereby you pay the disputed invoice under protest, with the provision you reserve your right to dispute the invoice in due course... unfortunately Star have you over the proverbial barrel on this as the last thing you want is your pub to run out of beer.

RE: Star pubs refuse to sell beer

I agree with Sam's post above, particularly when he says They've got you over a barrel!! The truths is you are being bulled in an unequal relationship, which is the fundamental problem with these pubco leases. There's very little you do, other than allow them to bully you to their heart's content! I've found myself in similar situations in many times, and many others have, it's not a unique case, the pubco abuse knows no bounds. I have avoided using lawyers in the past, on cost grounds, which can be unaffordable, and the pubcos know that!!! Our best hope is government legislation to put the sanity back into the pub trade!!

From Marstons to Star. Given everything said on here regarding tied leases why did you take one on?
