The Government is coming under increasing pressure politically to take action over the pubco-tenant relationship.

BISC: Pressure put on Government to act over pubco vote

I watched the debate from start to finish, the most notable point being the absence of the vast majority of MPs ("overwhelming support"?). The usual suspects were there of course but by my reckoning less than 10% of MPs were in the House. My maths suggests that 90% of MPs had no need or interest to attend. Some of those well-informed MPs who did attend were of course completely impartial and in full possession of the facts, especially the member who claimed that some pubcos tie for peanuts (really?).

RE: BISC: Pressure put on Government to act over pubco vote

Patrick - I am unsure of the point you are trying to make here. I have been sad enough to see a nunber of degates like this over the years and they are very rarely well attended - its only the big ones that are deemed important enough to hit the news headlines that create a large number of MP's, who are encouraged to attend by Part Whips etc.
The point is that of the number that attended the overwhelming majority voted for increased reform of the industry.

Surely by know you appreciate that it is lack of information, ignorance and apathy that has kept these company's in business for the last 20 years. Most MP's are still unaware of the issues because Publicans are shouting at them enough

That is changing though - after all even Ed Davey has said that the tied model doesnt work !!!

Apologies - loads of typo's in that last post.

RE: BISC: Pressure put on Government to act over pubco vote

The only way to get MPs to support BISC and get the government to implement statutory control over the pubcos is to engage with them ... http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ ... email your MP let s/he know what the issues are and get them to support this move

RE: BISC: Pressure put on Government to act over pubco vote

Patrick,
I quite agree that more MPs should have attended but only god knows what they didnt, and they usually don't anyway!!

Clearly the issue of the pubco Beer Tie is of enormous Econo-Political importance to the country. It is a test of whether or not we have a true Free Market Economy at work.

To thousands of us lessees with the yoke of the beer tie round our business necks, clearly there's a nasty economical dictatorship afoot, likes of which you couldn't have found even in Hitler's Germany!

Could you imagine Hitler dressed up in full military gear, getting out of his jeep, into the pub, while brandishing a lethal weapon, Yelling at the lessee at the top of his voice, with a thick German accent ofcourse:

...Thou shall buy all your biers from me, at my prices!!!

RE: BISC: Pressure put on Government to act over pubco vote

One of the main salient points in all this is that it is patently clear that Ed Davey's dept was, and still is, clearly in cahoots with the BBPA. This IS collusion of the highest order. The whole thing is corrupt right down to the people we supposedly voted into government. It is plain that all those MPs who said that things would definitely change were quite simply lying to get us at the sharp end of the industry to go away. Vince Cable being one of the worst. I wouldn't trust that man to sit the right way on a toilet seat!
They would all simply rather see lots of us small people lose money in the £thousands rather than do something which might make a company like Enterprise or Punch potentially lose £millions.

RE: BISC: Pressure put on Government to act over pubco vote

TC,
I recall before the election that guy Vince Cable never missed an opportunity in the media to advertise himself as the ultimate Saviour of the economic issues facing the masses and as the Guardian Angel of the Small Business. It was all lies!!!

Now he's avoiding the media altogether, too busy protecting his golden pension pot, while the masses are suffering dictatorship as before!!

RE: BISC: Pressure put on Government to act over pubco vote

Ed Davey and the not so bright sparks down at BIS HQ need to look carefully at their awful decision which, as we all know, does nothing to help struggling tenants and keeps the industry status quo that the pubcos have fought tooth and nail to protect. At best Government were looking for the easy way out and were suckered into believing the BBPA were offering reforms that would level the playing field for tied tenants and allow them to compete in as highly foreclosed and anticompetitive market place. Of course the truth is hidden behind a wall of deceit shamefully spun by Brigid Simmonds all to justify her salary and keep her paymasters happy. There is nothing of any real substance on the table for tied tenants, nothing to balance risk and reward and nothing that will put money back in their cash drawers.

It’s amazing what you can achieve when you have an OBE, a few complicit trade bodies, a pot of money and a Government looking for a reason to do nothing. Looks like the BII and FLVA gave them the excuse they needed.

It would be interesting to see if any of the FLVA hierarchy are on retainers paid for by the pubcos? I think they might be.

Crazy Beer Tie, and you wonder why no one listens or takes notice of those complaining about the beer tie?

Of course Stephen the same question could also be asked of other members of the IPA
