British Pub Week can unite the trade

British Pub Week can act as a healing force to unite the trade as well as promote the virtues of the pub to consumers — that's the hope of British Pub Week chair Inez Ward.
The week, which runs from 30 October to 6 November, aims to get people back in to pubs by promoting their positive impact on society through a series of events over the week.
The week already has the backing of the Morning Advertiser, BII, Punch Taverns, Marston's, Enterprise Inns, Sky and around 2,000 pubs are expected to take part.
But Ward also hopes the week will help heal the trade's internal rifts. "I have a dream of a strong, united trade — one that we can all be proud of," she said at the official launch yesterday.
"A trade where many long to be part of it. A trade that is built on honesty, transparency and an undeniable passion for pubs.
"A trade that has the utmost respect for pubs, the licensees and consumers. A trade that is justifiably proud of its history, heritage and culture.
"

I think your views will be shared by many, including lessee's of the Pubco's involved. Leopards can't change their spots.

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

HOW CHEEKY of punch to have come along and hijacked the meeting as an opportunistic tool for spin and self publicity!!

For an outlet who's certainly responsible for the demise and the continuing demise of the British pub trade, this is an abhorrent behaviour and a contemptible act!!

If punch want to save the British pub trade, they need do just two thing immediately:
......abolish the beer tie and stop charging sky high rents!

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

And then they would be out of business, so thats not going to happen.

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

...but nobody should be allowed to be in business if their business model is harmful to the wider interests of the country!....Loan sharks for example are a menace to society and therefore outlawed!

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

Loan sharks quite happily advertise on telly. Take a look at the APR on the ones that offer to loan you

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

Difference being there are numerous reputable lenders... there aren`t ANY reputable propcos.

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

Reputable lenders like some of the big banks offering 'credit crunch busting deals' on credit cards at 35% APR, MBNA, Citi Bank to name just two.

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

More generalisations how can you say there are not any. Georege Baker runs one, are you saying he is not reputable?

RE: British Pub Week can unite the trade

I haven't personally seen those adverts!
But all these nasty commercial exploitations be it by the pubco beer sharks, and or the loan sharks, make compelling reasons for the government to act to outlaw them!
