Ed Miliband backs pubs against supermarkets

New Labour leader Ed Miliband has backed action against cut-price alcohol sold in supermarkets.
In his acceptance speech at the Labour Party Conference, Miliband said that Labour must support pubs in their struggle against below cost sales of alcohol in the off-trade.
"We must be on the side of those who are dismayed by the undermining of the local pub with cut-price alcohol from supermarkets," he said.
"We must shed old thinking and stand up for those who believe there is more to life than the bottom line.
"We stand for these things not because we are social conservatives but because we believe in community, belonging and solidarity."
His brother David had voiced his support for reform of the beer tie in the run-up to the leadership contest but it is not yet known of Miliband juniors stance on the issue.

Ed Miliband backs pubs against supermarkets

I doubt it very much as much of what is occuring now was already set in motion by Brown and his idiots.

RE: Ed Miliband backs pubs against supermarkets

If you believe Ed Miliband then you must believe in the tooth fairy. Red Ed is trying to cover up the devestating deliberate decimation the Labour government inflicted on our pubs and clubs. If no one in the previous government will hold their hands up for the treacherous smoking ban why should we back this pathetic figure as a possible PM and let his party stab us in the back again. Red Ed is not a "Blairite", not a "Brownite" but he is definately a "Unite", steer well clear of this slippery person who is only after personal glorification.

Typical Politician only when in opposition do they support our industry the minute they get into power they do their best to damage it eg. Labour the last 13 years and now this lot. No wonder more people then ever cannot be bothered to vote in general elections.

Politics in this country is a just a game to the MP's who tell us what we want to hear and after we vote them in .........do the opposite. Honest people do not survive long in westminster.
