Enterprise toughens line on buying out

Enterprise Inns chief executive Ted Tuppen has claimed that a tougher line over buying out has led to an increase in closed pubs and pubs where licensees are awaiting eviction — the figure stands at around 200 pubs.
He described buying out of tie as the equivalent of stealing. Tuppen said: "We're taking no truck with those who deliberately breach the terms of their agreement. They risk gaining Robin Hood status. But if licensees breach their supply terms, they're stealing from us."
Tuppen added that the company gave licensees one chance to repay what they owe if they're caught buying out, then they're thrown out if they continue.
The company reported in its trading statement: "Whilst the majority of licensees comply with the terms of their agreements and work closely with the Enterprise team to develop trade and improve profitability, there are some who fail to meet agreed payment terms or who blatantly and consistently breach their obligations under the tie.

sorry to tell you but imported labour does get a guaranteed wage and no more than 48 hrs, not like you!

Brian I was forgetting that. Out of the 365 days a year we open (366 piled on us every 4 years) we dont even have time to be ill, I was in bed today with a stomach bug and was summoned out to go and borrow a barrel of Fosters from another Pubco pub as we had run out. I expect at the same time TT was quaffing a Chateau 1928 with his evening meal complaining about a bad day at the office ! I couldn't be a***d to tell my pubco I had borrowed as they would probably launch a major probe and enrol me in fortune telling school !

The tag line "if licensees breach their supply term,they are stealing from us " reminded me of a true story of one of my bank managers many years ago.He had the attitude that if you exceeded your overdraft you were stealing from the bank,and should be severely chastised,once saying that a good thrashing never did him any harm.Some time later he took to taking off his clothes in banking hours and eventually became totally barking,foaming at the mouth and all that stuff.He was quickly pensioned off on disability grounds.

Now I'm not saying that this is remotely similar in any way or discription to the original tag line,definitely not.It was only that the stealing analogy brought back memories !!

David, I take it you (and many others)will be having scouts out in the square mile to check whether there are any pubco CEOs running about improperly dressed !! ! (yet)
