Fears for pub trade over VAT hike

Orchid boss Rufus Hall has said a potential VAT rise to 20% would be "really, really bad news" for the trade, while analyst Douglas Jack also fears its impact.
Hall, chief executive of the pub group which runs 289 sites across the UK, was speaking on the BBC's Working Lunch programme this afternoon.
"Speaking on behalf of the pub industry, we will be looking for the new Government to support the pub as a great British institution by curtailing the rise in duty," said Hall.

Cannot see what all the wailing is about. We all knew it was coming and more besides.

This is the new world order which will hit you for the foreseeble future.The only comfort for what it's worth is that it will apply across the board to every retailer in the land. Just means a reduction in disposable income by 2.5% so adjustments need to be made to counter the effect.

Karl I wasn't suggesting you carry out research for me. Rather I was trying help you avoid further embarresment by your posting incorrect information about the VAT changes under the last government.

I see other posters have already saved you the effort of searching the facts.
