The Premier League has said it will resume action against pubs and bars that screen Premiership football via foreign satellite systems within the European Economic Area.

Mr Richards

You must have a Pub half my the size of mine because Sky want charge me twice that much. There are weeks when the internationals are being played and on domestic TV you have no premiership games on but your still paying your subscription for roughly 2 weeks In summer your paying the same for sport when all you can offer is cricket not a big earner. The simple thing is that you have no choice but sky should you wish to show football in you Pub unless you use the Foreign Channels
So where is the freedom of choice

Anyone paying Sky at this time is either doing so through their company or must be doing very well to justify it. If all the pubs and clubs that do not make anything from it stopped paying for it, maybe Sky would bring the price down.
Consider what you get and where it goes, it is also morally wrong in this climate to be charging FANS ridiculess amounts of money to watch our national game. It lines the pockets of the controllers of our national sport and even worse, puts players fees into a totally unrealistic catagory.
Cap players wages (As in NHL, Baseball and slowly but surely, most other sports, then they won't have to pass on these huge, unrealistic fees from us.

Few pubs qualify for £580 a month unless you're a backstreet boozer or in the sticks with a tiny RV. My Sky bill would be over £2k pcm and we took it out 4 years ago. ViaSat show more games than Sky and most local games are in UK commentary. My customers are ok about foreign commentary, as they know that Sky have forced most local pubs to give up Sky. The picture, being digital, is of course as good as Sky and often comes from BSkyB via ViaSat, so comments about "grainy" pictures are ill-informed. The Premier League can claim copyright, but this has already been addressed to a degree by the ECJ, in that the amount of copyright is permissable if it is marginal, as use of the Premier League logo and anthem are. If need be, we will turn the relevant FA sound-bites off. Sky and the Premier League need to wake up amd smell the coffee, as they are damaging pubs, which are still a key forum for supporters, and ultimately undermining the sport or propping up its worst aspects artificially.

I think that a lot of publicans should concentrate on getting there rateable value under control as it seems that a lot are paying Sky far too much because of this. And sometimes this is a result of the brewer and pub co's, they want the rates high to help justify the high rents that they want to charge, when they say they will help the tenant with an appeal they really mean let us help us and stop the poor tenant from getting real advise.

One more thing does P Richards work for Sky, The FA or an agency of either? As he/she is absolutely in favour of keeping the monopoly. If the High Court rules that there should be a level playing field across the EEA then there will still be the issue of trade or domestic viewing cards. I think we will find that many parts of Europe will be paying more for trade subscriptions and we may pay a little less. But domestic card in commercial premises will still be illegal.

Considering the size of my venue, and location, I find £580 a month a struggle to pay sometimes. However I am a firm believer in what is right and lawful. If I could deal with these EU companies directly I would, but instead I have to pay an unauthorised middle man. Also Sky recently told me my price will be reduced by 20% due to being in a small town. I'm not happy however that new customers don't have to sign up for 12 months whereas I am contracted until August.

RE: Premier League to resume action over foreign satellite screenings

interesting this point in allowing rolling monthly contracts, but wondering how much are sky will be loading the fee, over and above the normal cost,

RE: Premier League to resume action over foreign satellite screenings

Sky's price hasn't been increased, I've been offered a discount due to being in a small town. If it wasn't for this I would be wanting my account terminated. The cost is relative to my business and without their reduction I would be just breaking even on sport. I think some users of these forums need to look at what Sky are offering rather than assume there will be increases. I'm not a fan of our austraillian friend but if Sky keeps the customers happy then I need to make that investment.

PR. Leopards don't change their spots. Their last increase was so massive, over 30% for my pub, many of us kicked them to touch. All they are now doing is trying to tempt those of us that dumped sport back. I for one will not be taken by their sales pitch again.
But it does give me a perverse pleasure at the moment throwing the mass of mail shots we are now getting from them straigh tin the bin unopened..

Whilst allowed to use public funds to pay for these court actions they will proceed come on people should this really be allowed the might FAPL using PUBLIC FUNDS TO PAY FOR THESE COURT CASES anyone would do this when it is not costing them a penny but is costing us the UK taxpayer why is this allowed Mr Cameron....
