Red tape fear for gaming machine duty

Another nail in the coffin. Lady who empties my machine also does the local Wetherspoon before me. Based on the fact that she gets to me a good 50 minutes earlier than she used to I asked her how the machine income was. Cr*p was the reply. Dying market and still the government want more.

...Here we go again!!!

Yet another government department is dealing with the British Beer Pirates Association? BUT WHY?

The discredited bbpa DOES NOT represent the trade, but rather a handful of property companies, the zombie pubcos!!!

RE: Red tape fear for gaming machine duty

Crazy beer tie, would you rather there was no input from the trade into such matters, that they were decided without any consultation with the trade at all.

For all their unproven "faults" realistically they are the only coherent group with any sort of strategy for the trade available to consult with.

Who should be consulted? Fair Pint and JFL or yourself ?????
Suggestions on a postage stamp( a very small one)

RE: Red tape fear for gaming machine duty

Ah well an end to all those funded holidays from machine cash stuffed under the mattress. Tax man always gets there in the end. Makes cross referencing from the machine companies records to licensees accounts. Expect some back tax owed.

RE: Red tape fear for gaming machine duty

Of course the BBPA are involved as their members take most of the profit from the machines, leaving the suppliers and lessees all the work and paperwork for next to no reward. Tied lessees should refuse to have machines on their premises, it will leave their customers more in their pocket to hopefully spend on what has some profit in.

RE: Red tape fear for gaming machine duty

And this from a Government which got elected on promises such as being pub-friendly and cutting red tape . Almost as meaningful as “We’re all in this together”.

But some of us are more in it than others.

RE: Red tape fear for gaming machine duty

Ken a basic knowledge of the current situation would have stopped you insinuating the tax man is being cheated (you really do try hard to ingratiate yourself to current Publicans don't you - NOT!).

You are right we should expect back tax owed. That the government has taken in VAT and shouldn't have and are still appealing despite a European ruling. If they wanted to help struggling licensees they should be speedily returning this ill-gotten tax revenue and without the need for the licensee to have to go to great trouble....not going to happen though is it
