Suffolk brewer and pub operator Adnams is to freeze the price of its beers to all its tenants and free-trade customers for a second year running.
The move means that, with the exception of duty increases, prices have been held since March 2008.
The move is in stark contrast to the policy of Enterprise Inns, which increased its prices by 3.5% across the board (Enterprise Inns: beer prices up 3.5% ).
"Whilst others in the industry have this year increased beer prices, Adnams has pledged to continue the price freeze to support our customers," said Adnams commercial director Rob Flanagan.
"We are committed to supporting licensees throughout this economic downturn. Our last increase was implemented over 18 months ago and we have made a promise that with the exception of duty increases, Adnams beer and Bitburger pilsner will remain at 2008 levels for the remainder of the 2010."
He added: "We know that 2009 was an extremely tough year and anticipate that 2010 will be just as difficult for many in the pub trade.
"Our customers have been loyal to Adnams for many years and we know them well, we fully understand the pressures on their businesses and our decision to hold prices will go some way to help our customers through this difficult period."
Adnams owns 74 pubs in East Anglia and London.
