Robertson: welcomes initiative

BII chief Neil Robertson "remains hopeful" that the codes of practice will address some of the concerns highlighted in the Government's new announcement on the tie.

He was responding to the 12-point action plan announced by pubs minister John Healey today, which calls for a strengthening of pubcos' codes of practice and promises a £4m investment to help the sector.

"We welcome this initiative and the additional investment it will bring to pubs. We particularly welcome the focus on business development, diversification and professionalisation of the industry.

"We are pleased that Pub is the Hub is getting the recognition that it's getting and we will work with the relevant bodies, including the investigation groups, to get a good outcome for the industry.

"I remain hopeful that the codes of practice will address some of the concerns raised."
