The Burnaby Arms in Bedfordshire is singing to the tune of £5k after winning the top prize in a competition designed to help put live music back into the heart of pubs.

PRs for Music, which awarded the 2012 accolade, commended the watering hole for its contribution towards creating a thriving local music scene.

“The passion The Burnaby Arms showed for wanting to create a quality live music space was really impressive,” Guy Fletcher, PRS chair said.

“Although the pub has only been recently opened, Lucie and Stephen are clearly great entrepreneurs and enthusiastic about helping generate a strong local music scene in Bedford.”

The judging panel, which included Neil Williams of the British Beer and Pub Association and Horace Trubridge of the Musician’s Union, also selected the Brunel Arms in Pontyclun, Wales for a discretionary ‘highly commended’ accolade and awarded a £2,500 prize to help them create the right space for music.
