An operator has given up running pubs to set up a training and recruitment firm after being frustrated with a lack of quality employees provided by agencies.

Niel Cody, who has just sold the Prince of Wales in Putney, London, off an asking price of £225,000 with Davis Coffer Lyons, is set to launch Barmade on 6 February.

Licensees will be able to search for staff that Cody and his team have personally interviewed, and under stricter criteria such as those with good wine or cask knowledge, or those suitable for food-let outlets.

It costs £30 to subscribe to www.barmade.co.uk or £20 to post an advert.

He said: “I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for more than 12 years and have always found training over-priced and recruitment agencies to also be over-priced and the quality of the staff they send to be of a poor quality. So I met some like-minded people and decided to set up Barmade."
