The UK's largest managed pub operator Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) has claimed back £1m in overpaid music licence fees from PPL.
It's the largest pay out for backdated fees from PPL that has come to light so far.
It follows the Copyright Tribunal's ruling last October that PPL overstepped the mark when it raised fees for playing background music by up to 403% in 2005.
As a result, PPL had to make full refunds, backdated to 2005, which could amount to around £10m for pubs.
Last week the Morning Advertiser revealed that Punch's managed pub estate had claimed back £500,000, Town & City Pub Company had secured a "six-figure sum", and Orchid had received between £50,000 and £80,000.
An M&B spokesman told the Morning Advertiser this week: "We were heavily involved in the PPL copyright tribunal through our position within the British Beer & Pub Association and have successfully reclaimed overpayments amounting to circa £1m."
However, experts have warned that individual licensees have been slower to make claims.
