A Scunthorpe MP has written to 73 licensees in the town asking for their thoughts on the pubco-tenant relationship.

In the letter, Labour MP Nic Dakin said that he feels that the role of the community pub is at risk, and asks licensees to get in touch with recommendations that he could set out to Business Secretary Vince Cable.

Dakin wrote: “Recently there was a debate in Parliament on the unfair practices of some pub companies. Labour supported a motion that was designed to challenge these unfair practices by introducing a statutory code of practice that includes a free-of-tie-in option and an independent adjudicator.

“Unfortunately, the Government remain indifferent to the situation, and have consistently delayed on taking any action. In the long run, I feel this lack of action will be damaging to tenants, small brewers, and to all pub-goers.

“If this is an issue you are concerned about and think I should pursue please contact me with your thoughts. Or if there are any other issues you would like me to raise I will be pleased to hear from you.”
