Donations registered on industry website PubAid have been boosted with 700 Marston's tenants signing up.

The website keeps a running total of how much the industry raises for charity and the figure has now hit the £4m mark - this includes £1m raised by Marston's pubs.

Peter Lyne, head of retail solutions at Marston's, said :"We are delighted that so many of our pubs have registered their details for this great initiative. The aim of PubAid is to collate all the charitable fundraising that takes place within pubs and licensed premises up and down the country."

With 1,600 pubs registered PubAid estimates that overall the sector could be responsible for raising £130m.

A PubAid spokesman said: "Even the Government cannot ignore the value we play in the economy if we start talking about over £100 million of donations to worthy causes."
