Fierce anti-pubco MP Greg Mulholland has slammed Enterprise's offer to fund a new tenant's body as a "sick joke".

Enterprise boss Ted Tuppen offered to stump up £100,000 to fund a new body to represent individual licensees to redress the imbalance of power between lessees and pubcos.

But Lib Dem Mullholland, also chair of the All Party Save the Pub Group, dismissed the idea.

"This is mere cynical window dressing from Enterprise and a clear attempt not to face up to the damning conclusions of the Select Committee report," he said.

"This is an all too obvious attempt to try to present a new, cuddly face of the pubcos following all the bad publicity they have had recently.

"Licensees are finally being heard and it is time there was a strong, independent, licensee's voice in the trade but it is simply absurd indeed sinister to suggest this should be pubco funded."
