NatWest is offering preferential borrowing rates to Greene King’s (GK’s) Meet & Eat pub franchisees under a deal to make the bank its official funding partner for the franchise brand.

Franchisees will also get a specialist bank manager with experience in the franchise sector.

Simon Longbottom, managing director of Greene King Pub Partners, said: “NatWest has been involved with the franchise sector for 30 years. By linking with them and their franchise fund, franchisees looking at our business opportunities have easier access to secure funding.

“We’re seeing our Meet & Eat franchise pubs bucking the trend in terms of expected returns and annual income for the pubs.

Currently the return on investment is 45% on an expected investment of £100k, allowing a franchisee to typically expect projected annual income of £45k. So this partnership with NatWest makes real sense in helping us develop the right package for franchisees.”

In its interim management statement last week, Greene King said it expects to open c.40 Meet & Eat sites by the end of the financial year; it currently has 23 sites under the brand.
