The first incident happened at the Red Lion Inn in Llanasa, Holywell, around 10.30pm when three men wearing balaclavas and armed with hammers entered the premises and threatened staff. No-one was assaulted during the robbery and the offenders made off with a small amount of cash from the tills.
The Cross Foxes pub in Prestatyn was targeted at around 11.15pm by three men also wearing balaclavas and hoods, one armed with a hammer and another with a bat. They entered via the rear of the pub but fled empty handed shortly afterwards. One customer received minor injuries to his arm.
Detective Inspector Alun Oldfield said: “It is too early say whether both incidents are linked or whether there is any connection with a robbery at the Bells of St Mary’s pub in Gronant on Sunday night.
“I would appeal to landlords throughout Flintshire and Denbighshire to consider how they are handling their cash and to consider staff safety at closing times.
“We will be carrying out an operation to address community concerns and the concerns of landlords. Local Community Beat Managers will be visiting rural pubs to discuss and advise on security and we will also stepping up patrols around closing time.”
Anyone with information should call North Wales police on 101, or anonymously Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
