Pub is the Hub has joined forces with Lancashire County Council as part of the Local Community Services Champions initiative to provide free computer classes for absolute beginners.

The initiative works with local authorities to identify their priorities for local services and urges them to support pubs in providing those services.

Pub is the Hub is inviting Lancashire licensees to join the local scheme and host free basic computer skills training in their pubs. Lancashire Adult Learning will provide laptops, internet access and professional tutor support.

The courses run for four to six weeks, with sessions lasting 90 minutes. The funding is only available until 31 March this year.

Malcolm Harrison, the chairman of the north-west Hub for Pub is the Hub, said: “This is the perfect opportunity to fill some quiet days in your pub with local residents who need to learn some new skills.

Pubs are warm, accessible and open for long hours during the day, so they make the ideal space to provide community initiatives like this.”

Anyone interested in running basic computer-skills courses in their pub should call Trish Horniman on 07825 931 336 or trish.horniman@lancashire.gov.uk.
