A survey commissioned by Lloyds TSB International found that 41% of the 1,034 expats interviewed noted that they missed the pub. Respondents were asked to pick their top three options, as 46% said they missed the countryside and 42% said they missed the sense of humour.
Our well-loved watering hole was missed the most by people living abroad in Australia.
The least missed aspects of life in the UK are politics and the weather, which both collected only 5% of expats’ votes.
“Often you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone so it speaks glowingly of our countryside that expats around the world miss it so much,” said Nicholas Boys Smith of Lloyds TSB International. “Many expats have an element of the adventurer about them, but they still long for certain aspects of British life that some people here might take for granted.”
