The Sport’s Bar & Grill chain has been urging its celebrity customers to support the cut, which could create an estimated 320,000 new jobs in the UK.
Alan Brazil, talkSPORT presenter, issued his support for the VAT cut: “There are not enough job opportunities for the young these days and a cut in VAT from 20% to 5% would release funds, which would enable the hospitality industry to invest in training and create thousands of jobs.”
Football legend Terry Neill, formerly captain of Northern Ireland and manager of Arsenal and Spurs, also issued his support for the campaign.
The sports celebrities have followed the lead of TV celebrity chef Marco Pierre White who had earlier pledged support. Property agent Fleurets has also backed the campaign this week by highlighting the petition on its website.
- More than 2,500 people have already signed a petition, to the Government, submitted by the PMA, calling for VAT to be reduced to 5% for the hospitality sector. Sign up at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/1198
