Tesco: till error led to deal

Tesco has claimed an error led to it selling 36 cans of beer for £11.

Police had been called to the Tesco store in Greenock to deal with heavy congestion after word spread of a deal offering three crates of beer or cider for £11, rather than £20.

Tesco said the error was spotted quickly and rectified. The offer was supposed to be "buy three boxes of beer and save £11" but a till error had caused them to be sold for £11.

News of the deal spread through social networking sites Twitter and Facebook with problems also reported at stores in Glasgow and Bellshill.
