A licensee in Kent has had an appeal dismissed over a conviction for using an Albanian television station to show a Premier League football match.

Deborah June Lamb, of the Ocean Inn, Dymchurch was fined £1,500 and ordered to pay costs of £15,000 by Folkestone Magistrates' Court on 25 March 2010.

Lamb was charged after the pub had streamed the match between West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool through Albanian television station DigitAlb in May 2009.

She lodged an appeal in April 2010 against the conviction but this was dismissed by Canterbury Crown Court on 9 June 2011.

The appeal was against the conviction at the Magistrates' Court for an offence contrary to section 297(1) of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Prosecutions for using Albanian satellite feeds are unaffected by the on-going Karen Murphy case because Albania is outside the EU.

The Publican Morning Advertiser reported on 3 June how a licensee in Blackburn was also fined £4,430 and ordered to pay costs of £1,280 for broadcasting a match through Tring, another Albanian channel.
