More than 50 residents complain over sex entertainment plans at pub

The 2 Pigs pub in Cheltenham has applied for the licence while there are horse races on at the nearby racecourse.

One of the licensees of the pub Kim Binding told local paper Gloucestershire Live​ that at the time the application was made, lapcm dancing had been held at the 2 Pigs before, but Red Apple Associates, which organises the entertainment, had used five different venues.

Now, if the licence application is successful, the company would use just the 2 Pigs.

She told the paper: “There will be no extra lap dancing in Cheltenham, it’s just that it will be under one roof and that is why the application has gone in.”

Dancers are ‘happy with what they are doing’

Binding also said the lap-dancing girls choose to do it and it is their job.

She added: “They are happy with what they are doing.”

More than 50 residents have objected to the application for various reasons including the location of the pub.

Several objectors have said the location is inappropriate for a sexual entertainment venue licence due to its proximity to a place of worship, houses, a library including a children’s library and small housing units for vulnerable adults and care-leavers.

Another reason given for objection was the nature of the entertainment which some described as tawdry, offensive, inappropriate, degrading and misogynistic. 

SEV licences are controversial

The police did not object to the application, but made comments and put forward a list of 29 recommended conditions to be attached to the licence should it be granted.

Poppleston Allen partner Andy Grimsey said SEV licences​ were different to the typical licences pubs require.

He added: “SEV licences are often controversial and unlike alcohol licences require an application each year.

“Limiting the times, dates and location of the sexual entertainment will increase the chances of such an application being granted.”
