Following a board meeting earlier this month (February), the Institute of Licensing has extended Daniel Davies’s term as chairman until February 2020.

Davies, who is also chief executive of CPL Training Group succeeded Jon Collins as Institute of Licensing (IoL) chairman in February 2015.

Davies outlined his future plans for the business to ensure the IoL is an “ever-present voice” in the trade.

Bringing practitioners closer

He said: “Over the past two years, we have made great strides in bringing practitioners closer together, particularly those who feel marginalised in the licensing community.

“My determination to represent and support practitioners remains as strong as ever.

“For the next three years, we have devised key plans to ensure the IoL continues to be an ever-present voice, advocating learning and discussion across the licensing spectrum.”

Since Davies became chairman, the IoL has extended its reach in the licensing trade through its National Training Conference and having launched the first ever National Licensing Week.

Clear strategy praised

IoL vice-chairman Gary Grant praised the “crystal clear strategic skills and drive” Davies has brought to the IoL.

He added: “They have greatly enhanced our stand-out ability as an organisation to bring together the licensed trade, regulators, government, local authorities, police forces and resident groups under one umbrella to ensure that licensing works for everyone.

“We look forward to the next three years of continued growth under his chairmanship.”

In September last year, Davies represented the IoL at an inquiry by the House of Lords select committee, which investigated potential reforms of the Licensing Act 2003.
