Customer angry after being called ‘greedy fat pig’ on pub's Facebook
Geraldine Alder received abuse when she ‘checked in’ on Facebook at the Duke of Monmouth in Oxford after returning from holiday.
The comments said: “Glad your [sic] back again Geraldine Alder. If you weren’t there so often we wouldn’t sell half as much food.
“Glad your [sic] such a big fat pig. Pudding as usual, you funding [sic] heffer.
Alder replied with: “Wtf?”
The pub then responded and said: “Truth hurt [sic] you fat greedy pig.”
Abusive comments
Alder said: “You can’t say this on social media, will be taking these comments up with the brewery.”
She then tagged friends on the post, to bring their attention to it and the pub replied again: “Take it up you’re [sic] a**e again. You horrible bitch. Stay away and keep away. Your [sic] barred you peasant xxxx."
Alder continued to tag friends in the post and the pub once again replied with another abusive comment: “Stay on your side of Donnington bridge you slavery old bitch.
“Sick of wiping dribble from your table.”
A spokesperson for the Duke of Monmouth said: “We are very sorry for the offensive comments and are investigating the source.
“We have reviewed our Facebook security and are in contact with the guest directly to apologise and provide appropriate compensation."
Guest reassurance
The statement added: “We would like to reassure guests that the comments do not in any way reflect the views or opinions of the team.”
Alder told The Morning Advertiser she had been offered a free meal at the pub but does not want to visit it again after the incident.
She said: “I want someone to take responsibility, which means to be dismissed from their job for definite.
“Whoever is in charge of that social media device should be dismissed.
“It may not be their fault but if they are in charge of it, they should be in charge of the security of it.”
Greene King is investigating the incident, but it is not known at this stage if the comments were from a member of staff or if the account had been hacked.
