Cancer sufferer hits out at JDW after being told he can only order soft drinks

John Osment, who has liver and colon cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy, has collapsed twice at the Milan Bar and been told he shouldn’t be drinking while undergoing the grueling treatment.

He told the newspaper: “You have to find small pieces of happiness when you are battling something like this and having a pint with my pals is mine. I don’t think having cancer should prevent you being able to have a quiet drink with your friends. I’m not an alcoholic or a bad drunk and yet I feel like I’ve been treated like one.”

However, a spokesperson from the pub chain said: “On two previous occasions the customer had come to the pub following treatment for cancer. He collapsed in the pub both times. He is welcome in the pub at any time, however, we will only serve him non-alcoholic drinks.”

On Facebook, locals backed Wetherspoon’s decision, arguing the pub had the right to refuse to serve people and was promoting responsible drinking.
