Mouse spotted in JDW pub

A customer filmed the rodent scuttling across the carpet of the Flying Boat in Dartford before vermin eradication experts visited the pub.

JD Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We can confirm there was a sighting of a mouse in the pub.

“Our pest-control specialists are now dealing with the situation.”

Pest infestation

Earlier this year (July), a JD Wetherspoon pub in Warwickshire closed its doors due to a “pest infestation.”

The William White in Nuneaton shut after the pubco confirmed vermin-control experts were on site trying to “relieve the situation”.

JDW came under fire this summer when a customer claimed a centipede crawled out from underneath his hash brown​ when he was eating breakfast.

The pubco defended its Greenwich site and highlighted the Gate Clock’s five-star food-hygiene rating.

Food safety offences

JDW was the highest rated for hygiene in 2014, when it had the highest proportion of five-out-of-five ratings in the Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

Mice haven’t just been visiting JD Wetherspoon pubs as Mitchells & Butlers were slapped with a £100,000 fine​ earlier this year (August) after environmental health officers uncovered an infestation of mice at one of its Birmingham pubs.

The company pleaded guilty to three food safety offences at Birmingham Crown Court after inspectors found rodent droppings and unhygienic kitchen conditions at the Railway in Hill Street.
