Anglian Country Inns (ACI) has accomplished a year-long goal after deciding to “do something special” during its 20th birthday year - raise £20,000 for local charities across its seven outlets in Hertfordshire and Norfolk.

From sky dives, tough mudders and quizzes, to biking challenges and swimathons, the teams at all ACI establishments, rose to the challenge and raised £21,000.

All staff got involved with some teaming up to walk the 100 mile distance between pubs, setting off at the Cricketers in Weston, Hertfordshire, all the way to the North Norfolk coast ending up at the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe.

ACI managing director James Nye said: "As a family business with family values, supporting our local communities and local charities is a key part of what we want to do and we are all thrilled with the amount the teams and our amazing customers have managed to raise.”

Makes a difference on so many levels

Nye continued: “It will make a real difference to our local communities on so many levels.

“All credit must go to the staff at all establishments in the fun and challenging fund raising events they organised and of course of our customers who supported us all the way."

In total, 20 different charities across Hertordshire and Norfolk will benefit from the funds raised, with four in particular benefiting: Garden House Hospice in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, Herts Young Homeless, Emmaus Norwich and Macmillan Cancer Support, ACI’s nominated partner for the past year.

"Over the moon"

Georgia Clark, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are over the moon with the £10,000 that Anglian Country Inns has raised for Macmillan, and would like to extend our thanks to all the staff and customers at their sites for getting involved in raising money for people affected by cancer.

“This amount of money could help run a large Macmillan information and support centre for over a month, where a team of experts and trained volunteers are on hand to answer questions.

“They aim to give ‘time away’ from the cancer clinic, where people can find a listening ear and information on everything from local support groups to help with the financial problems cancer may create. We look forward to working with Anglian Country Inns in the future”
