The owner of Banwell House, and former Greene King regional manager, has acquired a second pub from an ex-employer.

The south-west-based pub operator has now grown its estate to six with an acquisition of a Wadworth pub.

It is the second freehold Banwell House founder, Toby Brett, has acquired from Wadworth, in addition to a joint venture launched last year – the New Inn, also in Bath.

The Rose and Crown in Larkhall, Bath, is Banwell’s third site in the town and sixth overall. It will open in late April.

Brett said: “We are very excited to be able to purchase the Rose and Crown, the pub has a great feel about it, and is in a great neighbourhood.

“The pub is undergoing some minor alterations to allow it to operate better.

“We are going to be offering a small fresh menu, cask beer from the region and locally roasted coffee.”

Brett, former Greene King regional manager, worked for Wadworth and Greene King for a total of nine years before starting up his own company in 2010.

Back in 2015, Brett said he was on the acquisition trail to add two or three freehold or free-of-tie pubs to its estate to “enable the business to continue growing".

The group is also set to open former Punch pub, the Packhorse in South Stoke, Bath, as a community-owned pub.

Brett is a shareholder in the project and Banwell House will manage the pub in the long term.
