Pubs In Our Lives: CAMRA has revealed its third pub campaign of the year
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has unveiled its third pub campaign of the year — Pubs In Our Lives.

It is part of the group’s aim to “raise the profile of pub-going” and increase the number of people using pubs regularly.

CAMRA is encouraging licensees to register for free packs with material to advertise the campaign.

Independent research commissioned by CAMRA found that 75% of people visit the pub for a friend or family member’s birthday.

Almost half of those questioned (48%) said they have been to the pub for a wake, wedding or date. In addition, 42% celebrated a wedding anniversary in the pub, 36% wet the baby’s head, and one in five met their current partner in a pub.

Important milestones

Tony Jerome, head of marketing at CAMRA, said: “The Pubs In Our Lives campaign aims to raise the awareness of the important role pubs play in many people’s lives. With so many local facilities closing, we are relying more on the pub to help us to celebrate important milestones. CAMRA is using this research to encourage more people to support the local pub, whether using it for big occasions like a wedding or just visiting regularly to help it become more successful.”

Raffle

CAMRA has also launched its annual raffle to raise funds to support pubs, real ale and the brewing industry.

Tickets are £2, and the top prize is £3,000. All funds will go towards campaigning to: stop tax killing beer and pubs; securing an effective Government support package for pubs; encouraging people to try a range of real ales, cider and perries; and raising the profile of going to the pub.

Earlier this week, CAMRA launched its first national pub website, whatpub.com. The site lists 45,000 pubs, approximately 96% of all real-ale sites in Britain.
