Former Refresh owner Rupert Thompson has joined Thatchers Cider as a non-executive director.

Thompson sold Refresh, which brewed the Wychwood and Brakspear brands, to Marston's in April 2008.

He was also previously brand director for Carling and developed Old Speckled Hen for Morland.

"There are not many people who can offer such impressive industry knowledge as Rupert," said Thatchers managing director Martin Thatcher.

"We are extremely fortunate to benefit from the knowledge and experience that Rupert brings. With consumers continuing to look for innovative and exciting products, like the new Thatchers Rosé, and with some further interesting ideas in the pipeline, we are looking forward to developing our portfolio of premium ciders for both the on and off trades."

Thompson added: "I first started working with Thatchers when we jointly developed the Green Goblin cider for Wychwood Brewery. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the ciders.

"I have subsequently got to know the team and can see that the commitment to quality and innovation is at the heart of the business, and is the driver for their success."
