Inglenook Inns and Taverns, the Lancashire-based pub group, has taken on its 18th pub – it’s first with Star Pubs & Bars.

The Falstaff, in Southport, has re-opened following a £325,000 refurbishment, which included creating a coffee lounge, raised dining area, booths and a zone for larger parties. A veranda and terrace have also been added.

The menu is described as a mix of quirky Amercian-style food including gourmet hot dogs, burgers, salads and sharing platters as well as more traditional pub favourites.

James Waddington, director of Inglenook, said: “We’re delighted to be taking on our first lease with Star Pubs & Bars as we have a like-minded ethos focussed on quality and offering customers a great experience. We know the area well so when we first saw The Falstaff we recognised its potential. It had been under temporary management for some time and had become tired and run down. It needed inspirational investment to bring it up to date and to introduce food and coffee and great customer service to ensure it served the needs of the local community.”

Chris Jowsey, trading director of Star, said: “We’re delighted that Inglenook Inns & Taverns has taken on The Falstaff. They’re operators with a wealth of experience in the area and know what the people of Southport want from a pub. This investment together with their reputation for offering customers great service will be a winning combination.”
